Paul teaches us that our anchor in life is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel allows us to filter all things through the supremacy of Christ's victory at the cross. Romans 11:36 BSB says "For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever!"
Colossians 1:18 NASB "He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything."
Many times in a prophetic culture our perception can drift from Jesus to focus on entities in the supernatural realm. We should always filter what we receive from the supernatural through our intimacy with the King. There is only one who is worthy of our worship.
Even the apostle John was overwhelmed by the presence of an angel to the point of directing his worship towards it. The angel responds, "Don't worship me, worship God."
Revelation 19:10 KJV "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." The prophetic should never exalt anything except Jesus. Many false religions came out of what seemed to be supernatural encounters with angels. Paul warned us about this. Galatians 1:8 ESV "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed."
When the focus gets off Christ and onto your ability to be spiritual or an over-emphasis of the spiritual realm we have lost the simplicity of the Gospel and put our eyes and attention on things far inferior to the finished work and focal point for our spiritual life.
